The Serenity Prayer – a mindful moment

‘God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.’

The serenity prayer sums up  the very essence of mindfulness, as it includes elements of acceptance, non-judgment, living in the present, and awareness. From a therapeutic perspective, the serenity prayer is a remedy for anxiety with its recognition of the pointless struggle with things out of our control, while recognising the benefit of trying to achieve that which is possible and meaningful to us. The serenity prayer can be a preliminary to ten minutes of meditation, and it could very well guide you to a healthier and more satisfying life.
